DENVER -- Matt Duchene was simply going for a cross-ice pass. A fortunate bounce turned it into the winning goal. The Colorado forward didnt know it until the roar of the crowd clued him in. Duchene scored 2:33 into overtime, and Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 shots to lift the Avalanche to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. "Were all pretty exhausted," Duchene said. "I felt like I was back in high school playing hockey, but those games are fun to win." Duchene got free after a nifty move in the corner and saw Ryan OReilly on the far side. Duchene tried to thread a pass to him, only to have it hit the stick of Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom and bounce in the air. The puck hit Duchene in the leg, dropped down to his stick. From there he lifted it over backup goalie Al Montoya. "I didnt even know it went in," said Duchene, who has a point in a career-high eight straight games. "I just heard the crowd cheering, and I figured it went past him. It was a good bounce, nice to get that one." Montoya was almost as surprised. "I dont even remember it. I really dont, sorry about that," he said. "I know the puck bounced in front of me, was poked in front of me, and it landed right on the guys tape." Enstrom made quite a save to make sure the game reached overtime. Late in the third period, Enstrom dove after a puck that was rolling toward the net. He swatted it away just before it crossed the line. Jets coach Paul Maurice didnt fault Enstroms attempted clear. "Just a little bad luck in front of the net," Maurice said. "Bobbled the puck and its in the back." John Mitchell, Andre Benoit and Duchene provided an offensive spark on a night the Avs lost another forward when P.A. Parenteau hurt his right knee early in the game. They were already without Paul Stastny, who was sidelined because of a sore back. Avs coach Patrick Roy said Parenteau could miss significant time with an MCL injury. "I think hes going to miss the remainder of the regular season, and well see for the playoffs," Roy said. "(Tuesday), well know more. Im just guessing right now." Winnipeg had a 2-on-1 opportunity in overtime, but Varlamov deflected Olli Jokinens shot into the netting behind the goal. Colorado scored 4:38 into the second period on a goal originally credited to rookie Nathan MacKinnon, when it looked as though he tapped in a pass from Mitchell. But the goal was later awarded to Mitchell after the puck appeared to hit off the stick of Jets defenceman Zach Bogosian. The lead didnt last long as Byfuglien scored twice in a span of 1:48. He tapped his first goal past Varlamov on a power play. Later, Byfuglien bounced a puck off Varlamovs left skate from near the boards behind the net. Benoit tied it with 12 seconds remaining in the second on a slap shot from near the blue line. It was a frenetic first period that featured no scoring but plenty of big hits and a penalty shot by Jim Slater after Marc-Andre Cliche hooked him from behind. Slater couldnt capitalize, though, lining his shot into Varlamovs glove. Varlamov later turned back Evander Kane on another breakaway attempt. The Jets were flummoxed by Varlamov all period, even running into the Colorado goalie twice and drawing penalties. The Avs were on the power play four times in the first period, but couldnt sneak anything past Montoya, who gave Ondrej Pavelec the night off. Colorado lost Parenteau in a collision near the blue line with Mark Stuart less than four minutes into the game. After a quick rest, Parenteau momentarily returned to the ice to test out the knee before heading into the dressing room. "He was in pain, but you know P.A.," Roy said. "Hes a great team guy, and he wanted give it a try." NOTES: Jets F John Albert left in the second period because of an upper body injury and didnt return. ... F Bryan Little recorded two assists, giving him 52 points for the season, which is a career high. ... Varlamov earned his 32nd win of the season. Cheap Indiana Pacers Jerseys . Rooneys latest piece of football genius lost in the furore which now stalks David Moyes, and the man who gave the Manchester United striker his start as a 16-year old at Goodison Park back in 2002.The old adage a week is a long time in politics will likely be ringing in Collen Warners ears as he made his way to join up with his new teammates at BMO Field Friday morning. For a player who started all nine league games this season, often out of his central midfield holding role to an attacking berth out on the flank, the last image Impact supporters are left with is of the long walk to the locker room for Warner following his red card against the MLS Champs last Saturday afternoon at Saputo Stadium. We all know how that game finished. A fifth league defeat in a season that appears to be getting further away from a club which is desperate to make amends for how their 2013 campaign ended. For a team that less than 72-hours earlier had lost to Edmonton, a team at the bottom of the NASL standings, the Sporting KC defeat compounded the misery that has engulfed the club. Joey Saputo let it be known changes would be coming. His tweet last Saturday was delivered even before the rest of Warners teammates had made it back to the safety of the locker room. Where they would discover Sunday morning training had been added to the weekly itinerary. Blake Smiths loan to NASLs Indy 11 announced Tuesday was a cue the club were on the search for a wide attacking midfielder. The splendid form to date of Justin Mapp has magnified how inadequate the teams options are on the wing, as did using Warner out wide. Trading for Nakajima-Farran immediately addresses this. Warner has faced undue criticism this season. When all he did was do what was asked of him. Used sparingly in a starting role by Schällibaum, his elevated playing role this term led to some even questioning the relationship between Warner and his head coach. Similar to April 4ths trade which saw Andrew Wenger depart for the Union, the consensus is that Impact Sporting Director, Nick De Santis has pulled off another favourable trade. The allocation money going Montreals way certainly sweetens the pot. Returning to league play Saturday evening after the bye week and on the back of Wednesdays fun and games in the return leg against Edmonton, provides the Impact with the chance to get only their second win of the season.dddddddddddd Worryingly Di Vaio, who spent Wednesday evening watching the game from the pitch stood just behind the Impact bench, has still not fully recovered from a hamstring strain which he first suffered back on April 19th in the away game against Sporting KC. He is doubtful for the game in DC. A game which will reunite the Impact with their old club captain Davy Arnaud, whose contact was not renewed by the Impact at the conclusion of last season. Revitalized since DC acquired him, Arnaud has played a significant part for a club that is only two wins away from surpassing their entire point total from the 2013 season. Not one who would ever describe himself as the most gifted technically, the Impact has certainly missed his tireless work rate. Arnauds dedication to the cause is a clear illustration of something else the team has sorely lacked as the Impact sit firmly rooted to bottom place in the conference. Another player who will not lack in motivation Saturday is Eddie Johnson, who was spurned by Jürgen Klinsmann when he announced a 30-man USMNT World Cup roster on Monday. Johnson more than anyone will not need reminding of his eight game scoreless run since been traded from Seattle to DC is hardly the form befitting of a player who scored many crucial goals during World Cup qualification. DC, who overhauled their squad in the off season following a woeful 2013, is the surprise package in the league this season and would signify a significant scalp for the Impact. To do so the Impact will certainly have to overcome the set piece jitters which have plagued them all season. Defensively they will have to be as they were in their solitary win so far and Justin Mapp will have to yet again carry the attacking threat. On Wednesday evening at Saputo Stadium just before kickoff rather aptly a "Through Thick and Thin" banner was unveiled in the stands. Patience has been tested, perseverance is now required.
